Friends of KUSF Organizing Meeting, May 5, 2008

Location: KUSF Workroom, Phelan Hall, USF Campus

Attending: Prem Lall, David Hargis, Brenda Seghetti, Brian Springer, Daniel Hintz, Mark Theodoropoulos, Gary Hoo, Nate Baker, Josh Wilson, Ted Dively, Steven Abbate.

Proposed Date for Next Meeting: August 4, 2008.

Summary:

A. The vote to ratify the FoKUSF bylaws went as follows:

Aye: Prem, David, Brenda, Brian, Daniel, Mark, Gary, Nate
Nay: none
Abstain: Ted Dively, Steven Abate and Josh Wilson

B. Josh Wilson spoke on fiscal sponsorship for FoKUSF through his Indy Arts organization. Indy Arts takes 7% of donations (below the market rate). He suggested looking into Google Checkout, which until 2009 is a free service, as a means to collect funds.

Josh is leaving for 2 weeks on May 16th. Perhaps we could get the Fiscal Sponsorship Application to him before then?

C. mTheo recited the bylaws and we voted on officers:

President: Prem Lall
Chair: David Hargis
Secretary: Brenda Seghetti
Treasurer: Nate Baker
At Large Officers: Brian Springer, Daniel Hintz, Mark Theodoropoulos

Meetings scheduled to happen after the KUSF Staff meeting quarterly (the first Monday of the following months: February, May, August, November).
The next meeting will be August 4, 2008.

D. A discussion of needs:
1. PO Box
2. Budget—this only needs to be 1 page with estimated monies.
3. Fundraising Activities-
a. Can we piggyback on KUSF
b. FoKUSF as a KUSF Community Crusade?
c. Gary offered money for 501c3 filing fees (but not beer)

E. Nate Baker ran through the process for incorporating FoKUSF and then applying for 501c3 nonprofit status. These steps are in a document on the files page of the FoKUSF Yahoo Group.

F. Brenda Seghetti spoke about grass roots fundraising: donor databases, email lists, and donation acknowledgements.
